How to Replace an audi keys replacement G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located near the transmission's edge, above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 using a grey wire. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can start spark and injectors in the right way.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will throw an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync, possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. The code won't show without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit tricky as there are two different pins for the connector and they serve different purposes but the most effective way to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. If the sensor is operational, it should be reading approximately 1000 ohms. Examine for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a significant decrease in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the 4th was dry. When I start the engine without sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each of the injector holes and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline pop out, but the 4th stay shut. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I get zero ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it works fine when the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows a temperature of -49c. Also, i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I feel like i've pretty much all other possibilities out. I'm afraid i may have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find the spare in a salvage shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them - just put your DMM into resistance mode and test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing up). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines must know the position and speed the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injector, etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you are experiencing issues with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could cause the engine shutting down.

Land-Rover.pngA damaged G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox, a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, or a misfire in the gear. If you experience any of these issues it is most likely that your sensor is deteriorating and requires replacement audi key replacement audi key blade cost uk (dokuwiki.Stream). They're inexpensive and easy to locate particularly in the case of a Bosch sensor like ours. Alternatively, the GM version of this component is also a good choice.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine speed sensor could be a cause for numerous issues in your vehicle. It's an essential component of your audi key blade's transmission, as it sends information to the ECU about how fast or slow the car's crankshaft is rotating. If the sensor fails, it could cause problems for the transmission as well as the rest of the car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49, via a grey wire. The ECU utilizes this signal to control the flow of fuel and boost and also to timigrate. It also transmits it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. You can also check continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should see the resistance to be around 1000 ohms between these two points. This is a standard component across the audi a1 key fob 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC through the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU so good parts could be found in wrecking yards.
