How to Replace an audi key replacement cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Audi A3 keys Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the outside of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

Nissan-New.pngThe sensor is used to connect with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can start spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will show an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync, possibly indicating chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper chain of timing. However the code will not appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit challenging as there are two different pins for the connector and they have different functions but the best way to test it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. If the sensor is functional, it should read around 1000 ohms. Examine for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if there are issues with this component.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at full speed, i noticed a huge reduction in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was unclean. I put a piece of tissue over each injector hole, and when I start the engine with no sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one remains shut. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I get 0ohm. I'm assuming the issue is in another place.

I also tried to reset the PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it is running fine with the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue continues to occur at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when unplugged, still shows an ice temperature of -49c. Also i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

I'm not certain what to do, as i feel i have pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. I'm worried that i might have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 and both function in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a salvage yard or in a local parts store. It is simple to test them to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's side). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that must know the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about fuel injector timing etc. To do this, it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you have a problem with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could cause an engine shut down.

A malfunctioning G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox or a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, and/or an unfire when in the gear. It is likely that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you experience any of these symptoms. The good thing is that they are very cheap and easy to find particularly in the audi tt key case of a Bosch sensor, which is what ours are. You can also choose the GM version of this component is also a good choice.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a myriad of issues within your vehicle. It's an essential component of the audi car key replacement cost's transmission since it relays information to the ECU about how the car's crankshaft is spinning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other components of the car to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is situated on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU then processes this signal to regulate fuel, timig and boost, and also transmitting it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can check for sensor Audi Tt Key Replacement failure by examining the continuity of the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. There should be the resistance to be around 1000 ohms between these two points. This is the same across the audi a1 key 80-100-200-RS2 range, beginning with the 1985 MC and up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 Du You may also find good ones in wrecking yards.
